New Zealand thrash Afghanistan in Taunton.
On 8th June 2019 the Day's Second Game of the ICC Cricket World Cup New Zealand and Afghanistan faced each other at Taunton. This was for the first time since India and srilanka game in 1999 world cup that a world cup match was played here. Afghanistan a team with attitude and aggression who won hearts of many cricket fans round the globe by their way of playing cricket. Only team Afghanistan achieved and gained success during last 7 years and emerge as a strong one day side who on their day can stun anyone. From being an associate one day side During the 2011 event, the team made his world cup debut in 2015 world cup and their first win came against the Scotland during the same event.
Well talking about this game Afghanistan after batting first Afghanistan never looked settle in front of the Kiwi pace bowling as they were folded up for 172 inside 42 overs. Kiwi bowling was powered by james neesham who picked up his first five wicket haul and the second of this years event after mitchell starc. James neesham was greatly supported by lockie ferguson who dismissed four Afghanistan batsmen and helped in restricting Afghanistan. Barring hashmatullah shahidi's 59 no other batsmen showed confidence despite noor ali zadran and hazratullah zazai getting up 30+ starts.
This game was a day/nighter match and was interrupted three times due to rain. These interruptions were small and not so big that a game could loose overs.
In reply to Afghanistan's 172 New zealand's start were also not impressive as they lost Martin guptill on the first ball to aftab alam. Colin munro was also dismissed at a team score of 41 but after that kane williamson and ross taylor kiwis most experienced batting duo took up the charge and helped kiwis achieved the target inside 33 overs. Ross Taylor was then dismissed at an individual score of 48 by aftab alam, but skipper Kane remained unbeaten on 77 and easily beaten Afghanistan by 7 wickets to mark their presence in the highly competitive grand event of the game.
