Sri Lanka Stun England in one of the Thrilling Contests at Leeds.

Leeds hosted its first match of the tournament and witnessed one of the most interesting finishes of the contest as lasith Malinga stars in the stunning win over hosts england.  After batting first Sri lanka lost two early wickets but were recovered by vishwa Fernando and kusal mendis. Both of them took the score par 50. After fernando was dismissed by wood, Kusal mendis joined Angelo Matthews and both of them put on 71 for the forth wicket. Soon after that rashid and archer exposed the middle order. Only Matthews top scored with crucial 85 not out. Jofra archer and Adil Rashid were the pick of the bowlers for england with three wickets each. Sri lanka finished their innings on 232-9 in alloted 50 overs setting a below par target before the most destructive batting line of the tournament.
In Reply England too started Disastrous as they lost vince and bairstow up to the team total of 26. Skipper Eion morgon and joe root do some repairs in the early  scars but that Couldn't also proved enough. Lasith Malinga the experienced bowler destroys the english middle over with the crucial four wickets and played an important role in sri lankan win. Ben stokes played some lusty shots and once loomed a threat over sri lankan win but his crucial 82 not out went in vain. Ben stokes remained unbeaten but couldn't complete what should have been the resounding win in this  event for england.
Dhananjava de silva also showed some good support to malinga with three crucial wickets. England were folded for 212 in 47 overs falling short by just 20 runs. With this win Sri lanka unexpectedly reached number fifth in the points table and sends shock waves to the other teams. This win makes the tournament wide open for all teams and this world cup very much interesting. Chances of england for qualification in top four also remains in check as their remaining matches are against india, nz and Australia. Tournament has reached the very intresting phase.
