Lords London Witnessed one of the anticipated contests of this event. Australia and new zealand trans-tasman rivalry relived here again as the last event's finalists clashed in what should be the most fascinated contests. Australia who have already qualified was looking for some momentum to continue in their rivalry with kiwis. On a beautiful day at lords Australia won the toss and opted for batting but literally this decision proved a disaster for them as they lost warner, finch, smith, maxwell and stoinis under 100 runs to have Australia reeling at 92-5, some superb fast bowling by lockie Ferguson, trent boult and jimmy neesham. Martin guptill took a stunning one handed to dismiss steve smith so far the best catch by new zealand side in this event. Usmam khawaja batted superbly along with alex carey who both joined in one of the best partnership in this match. The stand of 107 runs for the sixth wicket proved a match turning one. Usman khawaja went on to make a brilliant 88 before he became the trent boult's second wicket of the match and his first victim of hat-trick. Boult soon dismissed starc and behrendorff of the successive deliveries in the last over to create a history by becoming the only new Zealand bowler to take a world cup hat trick.  He joined mohammad shami and became the second bowler in this event to take a hat trick.
Powered by the sixth wicket partneship Australia finished on 243-9 in alloted fifty overs . For Australia khawaja was the top scorer with 88 runs and for new zealand trent boult was the pick of the bowlers by taking up 4-51 also ferguson and neesham with a couple of wickets each.
Chasing a target of 244 jason behrendorf dismissed both the openers till the score of 42. Nicholls and guptill couldn't made an impact and went cheaply to have kiwis under pressure.
Skipper Williamson and taylor tried to rebuild some innings but kane was dismissed on 40 by starc to have nz reeling at 97-3. After that much of an unexpected happened when taylor was dismissed on 30 by cummins nz were 118-3, After that kiwi batting line up collapsed like hell, new zealand lost 7 wickets for just 39 runs to get folded for 157 in 43.4 overs and hand New Zealand the 86 run defeat. For Australia mitchell starc ripped through the line up taking up his second five wicket haul and topoed the leading wicket takers list.  He had a figures of 5-26 with greatly supported by jason behrendorff who dismissed a couple of kiwi batsmen. With this win Australia remained at the top with 14 points from 8 games and a game to play. New zealand now rely on England's game which will be their virtual must win game in order to get confirmed in top four.
